Perspective…

In response to a photographic challenge where the theme this week has been ‘ Worm’s Eye View’ I’ve been looking at things from a different perspective. Rather than concentrating on the normal view of things from eye level the challenge has forced me to look at things from ground level, or as near as is possible given my creaking old bones, nor, as some would say, is it due to an absence of physical height on my part. It’s been a refreshing exercise, the lower perspective adds a sense of drama to even the most mundane scene, in fact it’s become a challenge within a challenge almost, one in which I’ve taken to looking for the most mundane to see how perspective changes it.

The challenge also got me thinking about ‘ perspective ‘ in a more general sense, in that there is rarely any ‘ singularly correct’ point of view, very few things or situations are simply ‘ black or white’ and more often than not we are faced with a myriad of greys. In being dogmatic and following the staid, well practiced norms we may find our creativity stifled, opportunities closed off to us through lack of vision, it’s far too easy to be resistant to change but that’s not to say that change isn’t beneficial as long as it isn’t just for change’s sake.

A Worm’s Eye View.
